Jordan Kling, MSW, LCSW

Evoke Therapy Programs Coach

Jordan specializes in working with individuals, families, and couples who are struggling with interpersonal relationships and who seek to identify a stronger sense of self. With warmth, humility, and authenticity, she meets clients where they are, creating a safe relationship in which to heal and grow. She practices through an attachment-based, family systems lens, pulling from lived experience to create a more comprehensive narrative for the people with whom she works. As a relational therapist, Jordan builds safety and connection as key components of solidifying an effective therapeutic alliance. Mindfulness is an important aspect of her personal and professional practice and she brings this into her work to help clients build resilience and awareness.

Education & Prior Work Experience

Jordan earned her master’s degree in social work with a clinical focus from Portland State University. With more than six years of mental health experience in community, residential, and wilderness settings, her diverse employment and training allowed her to work with a broad range of populations. Prior to graduate school, she spent two years as a field guide with Evoke Cascades, which led her to pursue graduate school and return to wilderness as a therapist. Through her graduate studies, she provided group and individual counseling to university students and worked with youth experiencing houselessness. She gained skill in helping clients manage challenges such as addiction, gender and sexual identity, depression, anxiety, self-harm, disordered eating, and low self-worth. After graduation, Jordan spent a year-and-a-half facilitating therapeutic Intensives for families in a wilderness setting. Before joining the Evoke Intensives team, Jordan worked with adolescent girls at Evoke Entrada as a primary wilderness therapist. She received a Bachelor of Arts in French and English from St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Her passion for language and writing translates into her creative expression and interpreting life through metaphor.

Strengths

Her work with clients is informed by a greater understanding of family patterns and societal expectations that have often contributed to both the challenges that they face and their own strengths. With her belief that each person is equipped with an innate wisdom, she guides clients to connect with a deeper understanding of self, that has often been obscured through adverse experiences, mental health challenges, poor self-esteem, or unhealthy patterns. Mindfulness is an important part of her approach and way of being. She helps clients to recognize, express, and regulate emotions. Pairing family systems work through a mindfulness lens is a powerful way to deconstruct trauma that travels from one generation to the next. As clients uncover the sources of their wounds, they begin to recognize their strength and capacity to heal.

Interests

Jordan was born and raised in Oregon, and never lost her passion for the beauty that this state offers. She seeks to spend as much time as possible outdoors through hiking, backpacking, camping, hammocking, XC skiing, or hanging around a fire in the backyard. She pursues self-growth and learning through reading, podcasts, practicing yoga, meditation, and connecting with people and nature. When not out on a trail or sleeping under the stars, Jordan loves writing hand-written letters, her morning pour-over coffee ritual, baking, collaging, and spending time with her friends and family.
