Evoke Therapy Programs Coach

Steve partners with individuals and helps people identify what is happening now, what a person wants next, and how they get there. With his extensive background working with young adults and families in mental and behavioral health, Steve excels in developing meaningful relationships and making learning fun. Having been a wilderness guide, teacher, and manager, he has demonstrated an unparalleled ability to individualize care and be of service in ways that are best for those around him. After taking an extensive academic life coaching course, Steve now specializes in co-creating client-driven action towards academic and vocational success, better wellness, and leadership performance.

Education and Prior Work Experience

Steve graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Earth Science Secondary Education, accompanied with minors in Biology Secondary Education and Music. During five years of working in wilderness therapy, he field guided, coordinated academic and adventure education programs, and even managed a unique program helping clients transition from wilderness to their next steps. This led him to move and work in young adult transitional programming. There, he dueled as a program manager and college academic coordinator. Before joining the team at Evoke, Steve started his own coaching company and had served a wide range of clients.

Strengths

Steve’s enthusiastic and caring personality allows for trusting relationships to develop quickly. As a nonjudgmental and inclusive individual, Steve’s clients feel accepted and are allowed to think and speak both freely and honestly. Moreover, he listens with curiosity, is deeply respectful, and trusts that everyone can be completely resourceful when given adequate support. Between his creativity and wealth of experience, individuals are supported in determining their own action plans that are most helpful and important. If a client is wanting to enroll in college or join the workforce, Steve can supplement a more traditional coaching role with teaching and advising. Steve has closely worked with college admissions, professors, disability services, and even housing to best get individuals established as college students. As a hiring manager at multiple programs, he has spent years facilitating resume workshops and mock interviews with clients.

Interests

Among the lengthy list of adventure sports that Steve enjoys, whitewater rafting stands as his favorite. More important than the activity itself, he cherishes his social life and is known for being a good friend. If not on an adventure, Steve is seeing music or resting up in front of a good movie.
