As the Assistant Medical Coordinator, Alec works closely with the Medical Coordinator to ensure participants’ health and safety by visiting the field often for routine check-ups, providing general wilderness first aid training for staff, providing on-call support for staff in the field by phone, carrying out treatment plans in collaboration with our Medical Director and consulting Psychiatrist and responding to emergent medical concerns in the field.
Alec earned his Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, with a minor in philosophy, from Vanderbilt University. He spent several years as a mental health worker in a psychiatric hospital setting before pursuing further training through The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) to get his Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certifications. Alec spent a year as a field instructor here at Evoke before joining the medical team as the assistant medical coordinator.
Alec was born and raised in central Massachusetts and made his way out west to St. George in late 2014. Alec is grateful to have found the Evoke community—a place where he can continue to develop his medical and wilderness skills while facilitating a powerful experience for program participants.
In his free time, Alec enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, yoga, and playing music. Throughout his life, Alec has always returned to nature to reconnect and continue exploring.
