Education and Prior Work Experience
Alex is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a diverse range of professional experience in residential, wilderness, university, and community-based treatment settings. He approaches his clinical work with a trauma-sensitive lens informed by ongoing training in the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM). Outside of his time with Intensives, Alex is a therapist at the University of Utah Counseling Center empowering young adults on their journeys of growth and independence.
As a Certified Clinical Adventure Therapist, Alex draws on the power of direct experience outside the traditional office to teach new skills and support lasting growth and healing. Woven into his experiential processes is training in self-compassion, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness-based practices, family systems therapy, and several modalities of trauma treatment. Tying in these various skills with more than 10 years of experience working in diverse clinical settings, Alex facilitates a dynamic and well-rounded therapeutic process driven by a deep belief in the strength and resourcefulness of each individual in effecting change. His passion for group work aligns with his own growth experiences and extroverted personality, believing that growth held by community is a need that all humans possess, and it is an honor to bear witness to it in his work with Evoke.
Alex is an outdoor enthusiast seeking to take advantage of every opportunity the Wasatch Range has to offer. In the summer, he can be found rock climbing, mountain biking, and trail running; while in winters, you’ll find him backcountry snowboarding in search of fresh snow and peaceful spaces. Alex also enjoys yoga, art, and live music, all the while accompanied by his therapy puppy, Juniper.
