Senior Field Instructor
Ducky is from Kentucky and decided to trade lush hollers and streams for the harsh beauty of the desert. Growing up in the heart of the opioid epidemic, Ducky has spent the majority of his life with folks whose lives have been touched by trauma and substance abuse which led him to attain an degree in trauma psychology from Eastern Kentucky University in 2019.
Having worked at an inpatient psychiatric facility and a sexual violence resource center, Ducky always felt there was something missing to those treatment approaches. In Wilderness Ducky has found that missing piece. He emphasizes the living metaphors in all aspects of life in the wilderness. He loves to empower students by challenging them both physically and mentally and believes that we learn as much from joy as we do our struggles. Through playful joking and humor Ducky seeks to remind students of their lighthearted humanity and bring groups together over that simple fact.
Outside of the field, Ducky continues to express his love for nature in all forms of adventures from skiing to climbing to trail running. When he can force himself to be still he enjoys sitting outside, reading, drinking coffee, and breathing.
