Senior Field Instructor
Colin came to Evoke from a previous career as an industrial engineer. Although his systematic mind served him well in that field, his determination to see more meaningful impact from his daily work led him to Evoke. He hopes wilderness therapy will be an educational first stop on his eventual path to becoming a psychologist. Learning from the experience of his own career transition, Colin is passionate about the growth to be gained from stepping outside of one’s comfort zone and into the unpredictability of nature. To facilitate this, he strives to create a safe emotional environment for clients to explore their own discomforts and face them head on.
Having grown up as a kid struggling to understand his identity and sexual orientation, Colin has firsthand experience with the impact that anxiety can have on the way we relate to those around us. Looking back at his youth, he remembers the summers he spent camping in the woods, outside of his normal environment, as a turning point in his search for confidence in his own skin. He truly believes that no matter our trauma, practice with positive self-talk, vulnerability, and open-minded communication is the key to re-learning how to connect.
Colin humbly acknowledges that he will never stop growing, and enjoys the lessons he learns from every new person and adventure that he experiences at Evoke. He considers himself very fortunate to get to spend his working weeks in the dynamic deserts of southern Utah. In his spare time, he can be found biking long distances, exploring canyons, and playing board games with friends old and new.
