Trina Grater, MA, LCMHC

Assistant Clinical Director & Therapist at Entrada

Trina works well with adolescents who identify as female, who are sensitive and creative, and show signs of low self-worth, past trauma, addictive behaviors, attachment issues, mood disorders, and body image issues. These young people are often bright and seem to have lost a sense of self. She cultivates momentum with clients who may be seen as resistant to therapy through experiential avenues and compassion. She taps into how the body stores trauma through expressive art modalities. Her therapeutic approach is diverse and individualized, integrating an array of therapeutic lenses to best match the clients and families she works with.

Education & Prior Work Experience

Trina earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from Saybrook University in California. She is a licensed clinical mental health counselor, and her studies were CACREP aligned and emphasized a systems approach. Trina has previous experience in therapeutic residential settings for adolescent girls and young adults, and has over a decade of experience in wilderness therapy. She has experienced some of the best mentoring during her professional development, and she works in wilderness therapy because it is incomparable in how real, powerful, and empowering it is for her students and families she works with. Trina earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Roanoke College in Virginia. Studying human experiences through literature informs her clinical work, and she is an artist and writer still. Her clinical work is humanistic, holistic, and attachment informed. She is skilled at a motivational interviewing approach, and is DBT informed.

Strengths

Trina is known for her authenticity and for holding clients accountable. She balances her client’s self-discovery with means of having fun. Her enthusiasm is described as contagious, which she feels grows from staying curious as she engages and empowers clients. Trina is creative and incorporates a range of expressive arts in her clinical work. She recognizes that gaining productive life skills and offering a strengths-based approach cultivates therapeutic traction.

Interests

Trina is a middle child with two brothers and was raised in Northeast Ohio. She has lived in many corners of the country and has camped in all 50 states. Like the counseling she offers, Trina is passionate in her personal life and continuously committed to personal growth. Current favorites include yoga, swimming, and painting. Since 2009 she’s called Southern Utah home and has canyoneered and hiked hundreds of miles in the area. She enjoys baking, dancing, and engaging in her local community. When she’s not working, she can be found spending time with her family and working on home improvement projects.
