Dr. Sonya Rodriguez is a strong believer in the power of play and experiential therapy as a catalyst for deep healing and connection. With her background in family systems and attachment theory, Dr. Rodriguez brings a wealth of clinical experience working as a family therapist and parent coach.
Education & Prior Work Experience
Dr. Rodriguez is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Texas, Colorado, and Utah. She holds a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from North Central University and MEd in Counseling from the University of North Texas. She completed her dissertation on the application of family therapy with adolescents in wilderness treatment. In the process of deepening her clinical practice, Dr. Rodriguez has completed advanced training in Emotionally Focused Family therapy (EFT), Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and First Responder crisis work. Her therapy and coaching background includes wilderness treatment, residential treatment, addictions treatment, transitional living, and family coaching with families in family businesses. She often travels to work in-person with families who desire to fortify their relationships and provide customized family support with loved ones transitioning home from treatment.

Among her strengths, Dr. Rodriguez is passionate about facilitating experiential groups both indoors and in nature. As a life-long learner and perpetual qualitative researcher, Dr. Rodriguez has written professional articles on the topic of family therapy during wilderness treatment. Her experience as a mother of four adult children and the ongoing support of her husband has given Dr. Rodriguez the inspiration and safe foundation to live more fully and share a sense of gratitude, curiosity, and playfulness with her clients.
Interests
Dr. Rodriguez was born and raised in Texas, has lived in Europe with her husband and children, and is deeply grateful for the opportunity to have raised their children in the mountains of Colorado. Sonya loves exploring and taking adventures with her family and friends. She craves deep conversations, water and mountain sports, training for activities that push physical and emotional limits, and pondering the human condition while soaking up nature. Sonya finds awe in looking up at clouds, sunrises, sunsets, and flying the open skies as a licensed pilot.
