Patrick brings a wealth of clinical expertise in experiential approaches with a background in Adventure Therapy. His clinical, consulting, and supervisory experience is focused on developing and reframing meaning, creating connections, and being more aware of basic neurobiology to help clients create meaningful change in their lives.
Education and Prior Work Experience
Patrick has a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. He is a licensed clinical mental health counselor in Utah and Illinois and is a Certified Clinical Adventure Therapist. He has worked in mental health since 2008 in a variety of capacities and with several populations, and most consistently with youth and their families. He has also served in leadership positions as a Clinical Director and Training Coordinator. He has provided consultation services for integrating mental health counseling techniques in the workplace and in schools. In addition to currently working with Evoke Therapy Intensives, he is also an Assistant Professor providing training to up and coming clinical mental health counselors.
Strengths
His clinical practice, training, and research is focused on integrating experiential practice and brain monitoring. He has published articles on the uses and effectiveness of Adventure Therapy and presented at multiple regional and national conferences on Adventure Therapy as well as integrating knowledge of neuroscience into clinical counseling practice. His doctoral dissertation study monitored electrical activity in the brain while participants engaged in Adventure Therapy initiatives. Patrick has effectively assisted hundreds of individuals, groups, and youth and their families with overcoming great challenges and find greater connection, functioning, and wellness through experiential therapies.
Interests
Patrick loves camping, backpacking, and the outdoors; especially when it is with his wife and two children. He was previously a volunteer firefighter and enjoys volunteering and giving back to his community. In his downtime he likes to listen to podcasts and audio books, and learn and practice new skills that randomly strike his interest.
