Eating Disorders & Personality Disorders

Eating Disorders

Evoke's therapeutic model has been successful in treating those suffering from body-image issues and problematic issues with food. We treat individuals struggling with mild to moderate anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive eating. Evoke Wilderness therapy is a compelling alternative to residential and hospital treatments when the client is not at risk for acute health issues related to their eating disorder. Wilderness therapy moves away from body image and focuses on an improved sense of efficacy, resiliency, and self-worth based on a deeper understanding of the self. Mindfulness, dynamic and developmental therapies, and family therapies are amplified when the experience is paired with the sense of accomplishment inherent in the everyday living of wilderness therapy.

Personality Disorder

There are many types of personality disorders. These involve a pattern of behavior that is largely different than the expectations of a person’s culture. These are often resistant to traditional therapies. Personality disorders have their onset in adolescence or early adulthood and may continue through the courses of one’s life. Some examples of personality disorders are Antisocial Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Treatment resistance and a negative impact throughout the life-span are key features of these disorders and early intervention is critical. Like many of the issues we treat, experiential therapy in the wilderness is particularly successful because this new context challenges the old patterns that have become habitual to the individual struggling with a personality disorder.
